Pine Island Newspaper obituary-Jan 10 1907 Mrs. John Smith a brief notice of whose death at her home in Zumbrota on New Years Day appeared in these colums last week was born at Lowell, Wis. Oct 5, 1856 and was 50 yr 2 mo and 27 days old at the time of death. Funeral services were held at the late home on Thurs morning following her death and the internment was made in the Pine Island Cemetery, the service being conducted by Rev Mr. Coffin of this place. Deceased leaves 2 children harry who has made his home with his mother and Mrs. Louis Andrist, of this place and one brother Orrin Anderson of Eagle Bend. Mrs. Smith and her husband were among the early settlers of the village and lived here continuously until about 3 years ago when Mrs. Smith purchased the hotel property at Zumbrota which she has since successfully operated. Perhaps no more industrious kindhearted or concientious woman ever trod the streets of Pine Island than Mrs. Smith. Frail of body, but stout of heart, any disappointments or discouragements which may have fallen to her lot were never allowed to be apparent in her face or manner. She was always ready with a smile and a cherry word of encouragement for all corners and for her family nothing she pssessed was too good. death certificate Pine Island cemetery records check every county in south east Minnesota for a marriage certificate 1870 census Mazzeppa, Wabasha, MN living with Charles Welch family she is age 13 also in the household is Alma Welsh age 35 born in NY along with Charles age 35 and from NY and Bessie Welsh age 1 born in MN. 1880 census Mazzeppa, Wabasha, MN married to John nickname Libbie 16 Aug 1906 Mrs. John Smith of Zumbrota visited relatives and friends in the village Monday (Pine Island News)
