Notes:
Information obtained from death record of Edward Kent Carver from record of
Deaths, Volume II, page 2, of the town of Glenburn, Maine.

Marriage Data provided by note on my letter to Town Clerk of Lagrange, Maine,
showing marriage intentions filed between Cyrus Carver and Mary Waterhouse on
September 12, 1835. Clerk also had the following comment: "Records prior to
1892, when it became a law to record vital statistics, are very erratic and
sometimes nonexistent. None of the early records are indexed so it took
considerable searching to find the above information".

A note from the Town Clerk at Lagrange in response to a separate letter says:
"Found a family record of Cyrus and Mary Carver in which it said: John H.
Carver was born Aug 27th 1849. Charles W. Carver was born Nov. 10th 1851.
Record made 25 day of June 1858."

Birth date approximated from death date and age given on tombstone at LaGrange
Village Cemetery, LaGrange, Maine.

Monument at Pleasant View Cemetery in Glenburn, Maine says: "Edward K. Carver,
A member of Co. B 20th Regiment, ME Vols. Died 24 January 1899. Age 56 years, 1
month and 10 days." The one month and ten days note would support the December
13 birth date in the town records, but not the 1841 birth year. The 1850
census also lists Edward as being 9 at the time of the enumeration in August of
1850. The census taker may have given credit, i.e. rounded up since
Edward, in August would have been closer to 9 than to 8. Or, as other records
suggest he was born in July 1842, but then he would only have been 8 at the
time of the 1850 census. The June 8, 1860 Federal Census gives his age as
18. This also favors the 1841 birth year as he would be 19 on either the
July or the December yet to come in 1860. See notes on brother Leonard Dwight
Carver.
Note from Pauline L. Henderson, granddaughter to Edward Kent Carver through
daughter Mahala Maud Carver Henderson indicates that Edward was a farmer and
peddler of accessories. He was in the Civil War. Also says that he was from
around LaGrange and Howland, Maine.

Of interest. 1850 Census shows E Flanders living in the Carver household at age
of 29. During visit to LaGrange Cemetery in 1992 located tombstone of Enoch
Flanders who died June 13, 1865, aet 43 years 7 months. That equates with the
census data and it is probably no coincidence that Charles W. Carver married a
Priscilla Flanders according to Hazel Morrison Moor. The LaGrange records show
an 1854 birth date for Charles on the tombstone, but an 1851 birth date in the
family records. Need some research to see if Enoch Flanders is father of
Priscilla Flanders, and what correct year is for birth of Charles. The
difference is either 7 years or 4 years. If Enoch Flanders is father, then the
following tombstones will be of interest.

"Enoch Flanders, died June 13, 1865, age 43 years, 7 months.
Harriet L. Shuman, wife of Enoch Flanders, died Nov 19, 1862, 22 yrs. 9 mos.
27 days."

The following may be related to Priscilla's mother (If it is Harriet).

"William Shuman, died Jan. 13, 1889, ae 82 years.
Priscilla, his wife, died Nov. 1, 1887, aged 68 years 8 mos.
Clara J., dau. of William and Priscilla Shuman, died July 24, 1850 aged 5
years, 2 mos, 18 days. Also their infant son."

Naming a daughter Priscilla after her grandmother seems very plausible, and
worth further research.
