sailed on the ship "Samuel" arriving in Philadelphia on Aug 17, 1733  Jouneyed sounth to Maryland hwere Kemp and his family subsequently laid ou the town of Kempton and became noted landowners, soldiers, and civic leaders.
believed to be part of the ten lost ribes of the children of Israel, the Kemps were allegedly taken captive by the Assyrians in 721 B. C. They were later taken ot Germany wehre they intermarried with the Germans. migrated north to the British Isles, and then cam to the US to seek religious freedom.  Kemp, derived from the Saxon word Cempa, means soldier or champion.
