History of Jefferson County, Iowa, (pub. 1912) Vol II, page 66, reports with
reference to the Civil War that "Waterman and Samuel both belonged to an Ohio
Regiment".

                   Tombstone sighted July 4, 1994 by Ellis Charles Rail in Mount Moriah Cemetery
just outside of Douds, Van Buren County, Iowa.  Tombstone difficult to
read but appears to give death year as 1820.  This does not make sense
when son is born in 1824.  Given the script used, 1870 might be more
correct. Age at death date of 76 years 12 days would then give Robert a 1794
birthdate which would be more consistent with spouse's age..

"Robert was born in Mifflin county now Juniata Co Penns - in N.E. Can - next N.Y. - moved to
Belmont Co, Ohio."

"Robert C. settled near Centerville Co Ohio- Cooper farmer"
(Don't know if this means he farmed a cooperative or that he was a cooper and a
farmer.)
