Source: Hist of Chas. Dixon by James D. Dixon Rhoda Emmerson's father, Benjamin, was one of the original land owners of Sackville N.B. After Rhoda's death her husband Charles married Elizabeth Humphrey. In 1837 he and Elizabeth with 7 young children went to Kirtland Ohio, having joined the L.D.S. church in Sackville. Charles with daughter Jane and his youngest son went from there to Quincy Ill. with the refugees. Later went back to his family in Ohio where he farmed until the spring of 1854. When 89 years old he became almost blind. He with his family left Ohio for Salt Lake City. They stopped at Rock Island Ill. for a few days preparing their outfit to go on. Here Charles the father, due to blindness, fell and sustained injuries which proved fatal. After his burial the family resumed their journey to Salt Lake City. Charles was 6 years old when he left England. He was a healthy youth. At the age of 16, during the closing years of the Revolutionary War, preformed garrison duty at Fort Cumberland.
He married Susannah Coates 24 Jun 1763 . Susannah Coates was born at Hutton Rudley, Yorkshire, England 1738 daughter of John Coates and Catherine Thornhill .
