Probvate rec. vol 1,pg 200,201 Jonathan and brothers Nathan and Jeremiah Gillette settled early in Windsor, Conn. and are the progenitors of the Gillette families in America. They sailed with a company of 140 Puritans from the countries of Devonshire, Dorsetshire and Somersetshire, England in the ship "Mary and John", arriving off Nantasket, Mass. 30 May 1630. The ancestors of these men were French Huguenots living in Guyenne, Bergerac Province, France. They fled from here about the time of the massacre of the French Protestants, beginning on 24 Aug 1572,during the reign of King Henry II. They went to Scotland where they remained about 30 years, then moved to Devonshire Eng.
