Esther graduated from Lincoln, Nebraska, High School where her parents had moved temporarily from Colorado since no high school was available there. Immediately after graduating, she taught a one-room school in Colorado and at about the same time proved-up on a homestead. This homestead was later sold so she could buy silver and china after her marriage. Later, she worked in Holyoke as a bank teller, and with congenial friends established a Browning Society to read poetry together. It was through this group of young ladies and their friends that she met Earl Bereman.

Esther was buried on 27 September 1975 at Crown Hill Cemetery, in Denver, Colorado.
