Marietta, Georgia - a rural Spencerville, Ohio, couple was killed Wednesday afternoon when their single engined aircraft exploded in mid air near a high
school five miles north of here.
Robert L. Suever, 56, and his wife, Audrey, 57, of Route 2, Spencer-
ville, Ohio were dead when authorities arrived at the crash scene, according to Cobb County, Georgia's sheriff's department.
Suever was manager of the Suever Stone Quarry on Bloomlock Road
in Spencer Township.
The couple was en route from Florida to the Van Wert Municipal Air-
port where the Beechcraft Bonanza was based.
The sheriff's department said the plane exploded above a high
school baseball field where a game was in progress. One of the plane's wings narrowly missed several on the baseball players they said. However, no one on the ground was injured by falling debris.
The plane had taken off from Naples, Florida Wednesday morning
and refueled in Macon, Georgia before crashing. The plane site is in western
Cobb County several miles from Kennesaw Mountain.
Investigation to determine the cause of the crash was underway today by officials of the National Transportation Safety Board.
Funeral arrangements for the couple are pending at Harter and Son
Funeral Home, Delphos, Ohio.
