Will of Joseph Orten From codicil dated 10, April 1807 in Rowan Co., North Carolina ( 26 January 1807, no probate date. Wife Janet to have 200 acre home place which then goes to son Joseph who is now under age and is to be schooled. Sons Joseph, James and John to share in the new wagon and negro. Son John also called Johnzy to have 150 acres on the west end of my plantation and 1/3 of the smith tools. Daughters Rachel and Elizabeth Wilson to have one negro, either Jude or Peter, and $25.00, Daughter Ginsey Robison Orten to have negro Sall, 1 year of schooling, maintenance until she marries, Bible and $25.00. Negro women Jin and Jane to be sold Exrs: sons James and Johnzy. Wit: Fr. Neely, John Orten, Thomas Summers, James Orten. Will made January 26, 1807 made while "weak in body". States wife, Janet,should have "the house wherein I now dwell and land two hundred and 20acres."
