Attended First Mennonite in Philadelphia, PA where he met his future bride. They were married by Rev Frederick C. Seitz, Pastor of St. John's Reformed Church in the home of Bessie's Uncle, the Honorable James Lawrence Schaadt, formaer Mayor of
Allentown, Lehigh County, PA. When they moved to Upland Street, the distance to First Mennonite was to far, so they attended Woodland Presbyterian Church.
