Grandpa loved to cook breakfast & made his own buckwheat pancake flour. The pancakes were wonderful & no imitation maple syrup. It was the real stuff. He had a great sense of humor. He was a life long Republican. One time President Harry Truman (democrat) was coming to IF & Grandpa was ask if he was going to go see him. Grandpa replied "I see Hairy Truman in the mirror every morning -- that is enough for me."
X
Grandpa & Grandma lived just 4 blocks from the City Hall. Grandpa always road his bike to work (a woman's bike as he could not throw his leg over a man's bike because of his leg). He said that parking was so bad in IF that if he drove his car he would have to park 4 blocks away so he just rode his bike instead. Walking a distance like that was hard on his leg.
X
When ever Grandpa went to work he gave Gramma a kiss. He always came home for lunch.

married. I have her note book from the trip. Because of Grandpa's job they

Grandma met Grandpa at a friend's house (Stella & Mary Mason) just once before he went back to Idaho to work for the Forrest Service. She wrote to him & never saw him again until he returned to Michigan to marry her. They then went back to ID & the "Sunbeam farm" in Oakley, ID. The family decided that those must have been some letters One never left the other without a kiss first. When they had their 50th Anniversary the Mason sisters came to Idaho Falls - neither had ever married. Other than her parents they were the only ones at the Wedding. I wore Grandma's Wedding Dress at the Reception.

Opal was known as the "Inspector General". She always arrived wearing a hat & White Gloves which she used to check for dust. Grandpa usually ended up carrying her purse for her as she flitted here & there on her "inspection".
X
The Ball family of New Castle (Ball Jars) made her a glass cane as a thank you for teaching their children. This cane is in the possession of Mary Julia Peters Boice.
