RESIDENCE: Singers Glen, VA BIOGRAPHY: As a child helped in Print shop, 1850 Census lists him as amedical student. 1854-1855 at University of Richmond studied Latin, Greek,German, English, and Mathematics. Taught school in Rockingham Co,Harrisonburg, and in West Virginia. Baptist Minister in Eastern VA and later near SingersGlen. Published collection of hymns entitled "The Brethren's Tune and Hymn Book", including some he composed. Letter from Benj. on Funk historyand genealogy on pp. 141-142 of A.J. Fretz book. Author of "The Life andLabors of Elder John Kline", a biography. LAND: Bequeathed a farm in his father's will, later selling to brother Solomon. (Deed Book 1, p.83, dated 20 Aug 1858, Rockingham CoCourt House, Harrisonburg VA quoted in Frances Funk p 155). In 1890 returned to Singers Glen VA taught atFairview School, 1 mile S. of Singers Glen. In 1895 moved to Bedford Co, VAwhere he taught school and served as a minister for 35 years. Regularlycorresponded with Aldine Kieffer (See Frances Funk pp. 179-188.)
