FHL FILM 153335, PART 4, SUPPLEMENT III. THE SCUDDER FAMILY OF TRENTON, COMPILED BY MOSES BIGELOW 1948. CAPPTAIN RICHARD BETTS SERVED AS (1) MAGISTRATE UNDER THE DUTCH IN 1656 AND 1657. PER ANNALS OF NEWTOWN, QUEENS COUNTY, NEW YORK, JAMES RIKER, JR, 1852, REGISTER OF THE NEW JERSEY SOCIETY OF THE COLONIAL DAMES OF AMERICA 1892-1928. UPON SEARCHING THE ANCESTRAL FILE I NOTICED THAT RICHARD IS RECORDED AS HAVING THREE SETS OF PARENTS. (1) JOHN BETTS/MARY (MARIE) BIGGS, (2) RICHARD BETTS/MRS. RICHARD BETTS, (3) RICHARD BETTS (SR)/SUSAN SMITH. HIS BIRTH YEAR VARIES FROM 1613 TO 1614. THERE IS NO AGREEMENT ON HIS BIRTHPLACE EITHER. CHURCH RECORDS IN HEMEL ARE VERY DIFFICULT TO READ SO IT HAS BEEN DIFFICULT TO CONFIRM HIS PARENTAGE. THEREFORE I HAVE CHOSEN NOT TO LINK THE ANCESTORS THAT ARE SHOWN ON HIS ANCESTRAL FILE PEDIGREE UNTIL THIS CAN BE RESOLVED WITH MORE RESEARCH.
