From a letter written by Dorothy Disch, dated 12 Jan 1979 and was the daughter of Alice Mae Jones and cousin of Lawrence A. Jones:

"I have a book called "Story of Concord". There is a picture in it of the Elisha Jones house. I'm sure you've heard the story of how Elisha stood in the doorway to watch the retreating British. A soldier shot at him, himmed him and hit the house near the doorway. It's been known since as the "House with the Bullet Hole". That hole has a protective covering now to prevent sightseers and momento hunters from trying to cut it out. When I went to Wellesley, Mother, Aunt Starr, Thel and I took a tour of the historic spots: Concord, Lexington, etc and we saw the house. When the gook was written, the house was owned by Judge S. Keyes. The story in the book tells how Elisha took his wife and two small children into the basement during the battle. He came up as the British were trtreating and started to fire at them. His wife grabbed him arm and prevented him from doing it, but as he stood in the dooreay, a soldier shot a thim. In mother's DAR book I found that he was born in 1744 in Concord, Mass and was with Cold Francis Faulkner's regiment in 1779.
