He death Certificate is from Peter Linton Crawley, Uncle Emerson's Son. On August 25, 1870 he claimed to have been born in Canada. The death certificate says Philadelphia. I feel he was born in PA.

Colette Linton McCullough writes " James Linton, last child of William and Elizabeth Selfridge Linton, was born in1848.  In the 1878 Philadelphia City Directory he was living with his elder sister, Elizabeth and husband James Porter.  Mothr Elizabeth and sister Mary ann also lived there.  In the 1880 census lists James as 32 years old and occupationas : "clerkPRR (Pen Railroand.  His wife was Martha Linton,31 years
James and Martha had two sons and a daughter:  William A.,Elizabeth P., and Jay S.. The 1881 City Directory lise residence as 1540 Dorrace )neighbor to brother John."
