John S. Linton Born 16 June 1842From CD ROM US 1880 Census Index gathered by Judith Wight, genealogist, John was a police officer in Philadelphia. His cause of death was listesd on the death certificate as carcinoma of the long intestine. He was listed as a widower. According to the death certificate he was 66 years, 6 months and 27 days of age at death. Burial was also at Westminister Cemetery, Grave #4, Lot 114, Merion section.
In the October edition of the Linton Family Monthly Newsletter,  Colette L. Mccullough writes: "John S. Linton (b.1842) 1880 census lists age as 38 years.  The 1881 Philadelphia City Directory lists their address as 1508 Dorrace. 1887 City directory lists his residence as the same. Samuel no doubt visited John when he traveled twice to see his family in Philadelphia toward the end of his life.  They were not interested in the Church.  Temple work has been accomplished since that time.

The graves of William Linton, Elizabeth Linton, Mary A. Linton, John S. Linton, Anna J. Linton, Elizabeth Linton Porter and James A. Porter all lie together. The graves of Josiah Linton and Katherine S. Li nton lie in another section perhaps a hundred yards away. The family spelled her name with a "K", not a "C" for Katherine. They also gave a middle initial as "S" not "H" for Heft. I wonder?? Ireland. The youngest child, James was born in Philadelphia. Children #5-8 were born in New Brunswick, Canada.
