Birth, Marriage and Death records in possession of Richard C. Holden of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
This is partially information given to me in about 1949 by Charlotte Burns Placht. She lived in La Crescenta, California near to us. She was a cousin from the Coyne Line. Her husband, Carl, was a very educated man from Germany, and was the owner of the Brentano Book Store in Los Angeles. Charlotte was not sure if his name was Michael Edward or Edward Michael Coyne and if his wife were Winifred or Jane.
In a letter from Judy Wight, whom we have retained as our Genealogist to do our Irish Genealogy (See letter under her name in the Genealogy File in our File Cabinet written 5/8/02) she states that the death record of Winifred Coyne Donovan, sister of my Great Grandmother, Catherine Coyne Holden, she lists her parents as Edward Coyne and Winifred McDermott. child #1 was Anne Coyne Follard. In her death record is listed her parents were Edward and Winifred Coyne. In a later letter dated 6/13/02, Judy Wight found the death record for a Michael Coyne whom we assume is child #2. His parents are listed here as Michael Coyne and Ellen McDermott. Catherine Coyne, child 3, was the wife of Peter Felix Holden and my great grandmother. She listed her parents as Michael and Jane Coyne. Other records also are not conclusive as to the correct names of my great grandparents. According to Charlotte Placht, My great grandfather was either Edward Michael or Michael Edward, So for now, I think I will call him Michael Edward who named his son Michael. It is interesting to note thzt in 1870 Michael probably named his son Edward, probably after his father.
The fact that Michael called his mother Ellen is also disconcerting. My great Grandmother, Catherine called her Jane is also disconcerting, and not to be solved at this time. It could be that she didn't like the name Winifred and went by Ellen or Jane. If this were the case it is a mystery why she would name her daughter, Winifred. This same name seemed to be popular with other members of the family when they named children Winifred.
In the marriage records of Catherine and Peter Felix Holden, Catherine listed her parents as Michael and Jane. These discrepancies will hopefully be corrected through future research.
At any rate, I will list the parents as Michael Edward Coyne and Winifred (Jane or Ellen) McDermott.
The genealogist mentioned there are five listings for Edward Coyne in Ireland in the Griffiths CD Index. Two were from County Galway and one from County Roscommon and the rest were from County Offaly which has never been listed in family records as a possible source of this family. I will try to follow this up. Maybe his name was Edward Michael after all.
I have assigned his birthdate as Abt 1793, the same date his contemporary, John Holden, father of Peter Felix was born.

The Genealogist, Judy Wight went to Ireland looking for the source of Michael or Edward Coyne.
She writes in a letter explaining her search which is in the steel file. She searched in County Galway and found nothing. She thinks Michael Edward or Edward Michael may have died in Ireland. She concluded the family originated elsewhere.

Birth, Marriage, and Death records in possession of Richard C. Holden of
Colorado Springs, CO. These are sparce at best. Recently (July 2002) The genealogist, Judy Wight, discovered her last name to be McDermott.

Winifred's brothers were probably Edward, Thomas and John T. McDermott See E-mail from 17 March 2003 from Judy Wight, our Genealogist in steel file. There is an other McDermott listed as a bearer for Winnie Donovan in the Monday July 30, 1917 Lowell Courier-Citizen. His name is listed as Joseph A. McDermott. Is he still an other brother of Winifred McDermott Coyne? I have copies of the Lowell Courier-Citizen in the steel filing cabinet. These were researched by Judy Wight, our genealogist for the Holden line.

In the page, "Births in the city of Lowell in the year 1870," Edward Coyne is born on Nov 15th. His parents are listed as Michael and Mary. Michael is listed as a laborer from Ireland. Both Michael and Mary

DEATH AND MARRIAGE, SEALING: Records in the possession of Richard C. Holden of
Colorado Springs, CO. My Dad, George A. Holden remembered his grandmother,
Catherine Coyne Holden as a little Irish lady with long dark dresses with a
flask of whiskey concealed in her pettycoats. She would sneak a drink now and
again. She was kind and loving to Dad. She had her hair in a knot. Dad
remembers her speaking to him in Gaelic-something like Istorin (Darling).
The family don't know where she was born. I have always heard County Cork, or
County Galway. Charlotte Placht, my Dad's cousin, knew alot about her family,
and she came from the Coyne family, and she said they were from County Ross-
common. I think I will look there first. Aunt Gert said she was born as well
as all of her sisters and brother in County Galway. All came to the US in
their early teens to do housework. Michael worked in the mills of Lowell.
Aunt Gert said they were a saving, God fearing people. They aquired property
in Lowell. Catherine Coyne died in her late seventies. In reading my notes,
I want to add that she was a small, slight, and spoke with a brogue. She
parted her hair in the middle with a bun in the back. Her hair was white.
She wore oval shaped glasses with all metal rims. Her dresses extended to the
floor. She died when the family lived on Walker Street. Dad thought about
1908 or 1909.

9 April 2003 Winifred was married to Jeramiah (Jerry) Donovan. Winny Donovan served as a Sponsor for Edward Coyne, son of Michael and Mary Coyne. She was Michael and Catherine's sister. Her death certificate states she was 72 when she died July 26, 1917. She was a widow Jeremiah Donovan who preceeded her in death. The death certificate lists Winnie McDermott as her mother and Edward Coyne as her Father. She died of Cerebral Hemorrhage. the bearers were John T.McDermott,Joseph A.McDermott, Thomas McDermott...I think brothers of her mother, Winifred McDermott Coyne. Also Thomas Rowe who was the husband of Mary Ann Holden Rowe, My grandfathers sister. George Coyne was also a bearer. I wonder if he was the brother of Michael Edward Coyne, her father. The report also mentions Rev. William Dacey who was seated in the Sanctuary of St. Patricks Church, the family place of worship. He was the brother of Katie Dacey, wife of my grandfathers brother, William.
