However, this Mary Ann was born 12 Sep 1839 in Marion, SC,  which would make her too young to be having children in 1849/51.  In the 1860 Census, she is listed as Mary A. age 28, born in South Carolina.  Delila Coleman, age 65, infirm, is listed as living with David  and Mary A. Shelly.  May have been Mary Ann's mother.  More research is needed (as of Feb 2006).
