Charles William CARLIN

                       Julia had been married previously in Lawler, Iowa. When she married Chet, her son Paul would have been over seven years old. Much of her family lived in the Los Angeles, California area. Julia had sisters Jessie Kout, Josephine Swartz and three brothers in California. She also had one brother in Charles City, Iowa and one sister in Canada. Julia wrote a postcard to Chet's mother Mary Heineken about 1935 from Los Angeles, which reads, "Sunday. Dear Folks. Got here Friday nite. Found all real well and looking well & natural. It's nice and warm here, flowers blossoming everywhere. There are wonderful sights here. Tillie is on her way here. Expect to be here tomorrow. Will write later on. Best wishes to all. Julia." The card had a one cent stamp on it and postage due of one cent.

    Later, Julia underwent a gallstone operation and never fully recovered. She was living in California with family when she died at the home of her brother in South Gate. Funeral services were held at Saint Emydius Catholic Church, Lynwood, California. I remember going to her funeral with my mother. She is buried at Calvary Cemetery, South Gate Cemetery beside her parents.
