John HELME
John came to America from England as a boy. He grew up in Allegheny City, Pennsylvania. He learned the Ropemaking trade from his father. In 1857 he came west with the family, to Wallula, Kansas, near Leavenworth. While there he worked with his father making rope. Feeling that the area was not advantageous, he moved to Saint Joseph, Missouri and opened a shop there. He is found in the city directory between 1868 and 1879. He had his shop until 1895. He lived there 45 years. The home was located at 2729 South 21st St. He had a decided literary turn and wrote good verses. He died at age 78.
She came from Germany with her parents to Saint Joseph, Missouri when she was four years old. I believe she was a care giver for John Helme's first wife when she was ill. She lived there for 75 years. Anna was 79 when she died at her home. My parents, Alice and Harry, attended the funeral with Ed and Mary Ann Helme Heineken. Anna had a sister, Mrs. J. P. Riordan and a Brother Christopher Hautzenrader. They both lived in Saint Joseph.
She was a life=long resident of Saint Joseph, Missouri. She died at the age of 76 and buried in Memorial Park cemetery.
He was a bachelor and spent his entire life in Saint Joseph, Missouri. He lived at 2729 South Twenty-first Street. He was a bricklayer and belonged to their union. He was 43 years old when he died. He is buried at Ashland Cemetery.
He married Anna Catherine Hautzenrader 15 May 1879 at St. Joseph, Buchanan, Missouri . Anna Catherine Hautzenrader was born at Germany 29 Nov 1854 .
