Samuel went to Buchanan County, Missouri with his parents in 1838. His father
died in 1855 and mother in 1874. He served as a Union soldier in the Civil War.
Had 320 acres, Section 7, Ogden Township, Riley County, Kansas, 40 head cattle,
50 head swine and 9 horses. Moved there in 1887, then to the vicinity of Riley
in 1892. They had property and cattle also in Brown County.

In 1870 U.S. Census Vol III 268-406, MO copy 593, Roll 761, he was in Easton
District, Center Township of Buchanan County, Missouri. His mother, Sarah was
living with them at this time.

He was a farmer, and belonged to the Baptist church. He had a common-school
education in Buchanan County, MO. He was a faithful and kind husband, a gentle
and indulgent father, a staunch and reliable friend, and an excellent neighbor
and model citizen. He died of apoplexy.

Riley County, Kansas," published by Chapman Brothers, 1890, p. 439. That
article says 1834. Two different obituaries say that her birth year was 1833.

She had thirteen children, ll of which survived her.

Joined the Baptist Church in her early childhood. Died at age 76 years, 5
months, 14 days. Well known by the old settlers as a woman of forceful
character who left her impression on the character of the community. She died
at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Washburn, near Keats, Kansas. Buried at Riley
City Cemetery, Kansas. Obituary taken from Riley News.
