Johann Gottfried (Frederick William) DIPMAN
Johann Gottfried Dippmann was known as Frederick William Dipman in the USA. Ernestine Knickerbocker, granddaughter of Frederick Dipman, used to tell the story that Frederick worked for a wealthy family in Germany as a coachman, and wore a high silk hat. He drove the coach to a dance once and waited outside. His employer sent out beer to help him keep warm. At one time, he is said to have driven a beer wagon. He came to the US at age 21. His parents were already in the US, but his father was dying of tuberculosis and the family wanted Frederick there.
He married Mary J. Woodring 6 Oct 1864 at of Ohio . Mary J. Woodring was born at Easton, Northampton, Pennsylvania 2 Aug 1840 daughter of Samuel Woodring and Rosanna Yeisley .
