                   Johann Gottfried Dippmann was known as Frederick William Dipman in the USA.

Ernestine Knickerbocker, granddaughter of Frederick Dipman, used to tell the story that Frederick worked for a wealthy family in Germany as a coachman, and wore a high silk hat. He drove the coach to a dance once and waited outside. His employer sent out beer to help him keep warm. At one time, he is said to have driven a beer wagon. He came to the US at age 21. His parents were already in the US, but his father was dying of tuberculosis and the family wanted Frederick there.
