Walter ATKIN

HIS FATHER CAME FROM ENGLAND.  HE MARRIED IN 1865,SARAH M. (BENNETT) ADAMS,DAU. OF EPHRAIM BENNETT. NO CHILDREN NAMED.
1870 census scioto Ohio lists Walter with wife Sarah and two stepdaus. Mary and Rachel Adams 11 and 10
1880 census shows   Wife Sarah and only Rachel age 19 stepdau

Biographical Sketch states Walter Atkin,born at Portsmouth,Ohio,20 april 1837.  He is the son of Frank C. and Jane(Duval) Atkin.  His mother was of French descent and came from Maryland.  His father came from England.  His boyhood and youth was spent in Portsmouth where he received a common school education.  He lived in Kansas from 1856 to 1858 and learned the bakers trade. with Hugh Stewart of Portsmouth,Ohio.  He enlisted in Co. G. 2nd Colorado Cavalry,Sept. 20 1862 and was mustered out after three yrs. service.  Most of his service was in Kansas and Mo.  He was one of the many who went to Pikes Peak looking for gold, but was not fortunate enough to find any.  He was in the saw mill business for several years and then run a threshing machine and molasses evaporator.  For the past five years,he has been a merchant and huckster near Stockdale Ohio.  Within the past three months he purchased the Calif. mills and is at present running them.  He is a republican and a member of the church and of the G.A.R.  He was married in Dec. 1865 to Sarah M.(Bennett) Adams, dau. of Ephraim Bennett.

Info. in Ancestry File,by Tina Cole states that Sallie and Walter lived in Kansas 1856 -1858 then returned to Stockdale,Ohio and were still living at the end of the 19th century.
