John William Summy 117 W.Spruce St. Palmyra,Pa.17078---sbrian@desupernet.net--717-832-3182 Jacob was listed as age 22 on the Captains list in 1733 but may have been a few years older. He took over his wifes plantation after his marriage to Jacob Bears widow and added considerable land to it during his lifetime. His will is filed in gook x,vol.2,page 11 in Lancaster Co. Pa. and was probated 7 Feb..1762. In it he says that it is my will that they shall not drive away my mother as long as she livety. Obviously his mother was oliving when he wrote the willin 1761. The only mention of his life is in several tax records and in a visit by some Moravian missionaries who reported that he was not at all interested in their message. History records that he was buried at the Groffdale Mennonite church.
Barbara was first married to John Jacob Bear and lived on his plantation in Earl twsp.,Lancaster Co. Pa. He sold it to Casper sherick, a brother in law, in March 1774. He purchased land in Hempfield Twp/ Lancaster Co. in Sept. 1775. His first wife Mary was buried in Hempfield Lancaster Pa. on the farm belonging to Benjamin Bear in 1880. All tombstones have been destroyed or pushed aside except for two. His farm passed to his son,Christian Summy. then to grandson,John M. Summy, son of Christian. His grt.grandson Josiah, son of John M.,,built a barn about 1886 on this property which included a cornerstone with his name and this was seen by John W. M.MARY ELIZABETH DIETRICH Peters tombstone, old red sandstone, inscribed in Ferman is still readable in 1992. His first three children,John,Barbara, and Peter were deaf mutes. During the Rev. war he was accused of helping three British prisoners of war and fined a large sum. There is a record of his protesting this for poverty and family trouble and the fine was remitted. He had rec. one third of Hans Jacobs plantation, so the poverty claim is disputable. He lived "40 jahr 4 monat und 2 wochen" His will is filed in Lanc. Co. book F,vol.1,pg.295. The Mennonite church burial records were reviewed by John w. Summy on 23 May 2000. They were apparently compiled about 1905. Peters dates and those of wife,Mary, were transposed.
