Bowman dead A well spent life was closed and the book of accounts,as far as this life is concerned closed with it, and Judge Elijah M.Bowmans spirit went to him,who gave it from his home in McDonald township. tuesday morning, April 24th, 1908, of a cancer, aged 64 yrs, surrounded by a loving wife, sons and daughters. Judge Bowman,we believe, was born in Tenn. and came to Barry Co. many years ago and located in Capps Creek twsp. where he resided until he moved to his late home. In 1902, he was elected Co. Judge from the Western dist. on the Dem. ticket, and served his people well. He leaves a wife, four sons and two daughters to mourn his death. They are Joseph,of Miller,Mo.; John Albert, and Claiborn and Miss Lela and Mrs. Ollie Ash of McDonald Twsp. Judge Bowman was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church,8 miles out on the Springfield rd. jThe remains were laid to rest Tues. evening in the Maddy Cem. west of Purdy. Another good citizen is gone to his reward---a family is broken and his neighbors will miss him. Obituary, Cassville Democrat,Feb 12 1927,;.1,col.2, Mrs. Johanna Bowman died at the home of her daughter,Mrs Claud D. Ash, 516 Euclid Ave. at 11 o'clock Sat. night, Feb. 5th. She was born June 12,1854. Funeral services were held on Mon. afternoon at Callaway's funeral home, conducted by Rev.Ed Brown,and Rev. Fred B.Kinell. Interment was made in the Maddy Cemetary two miles west of Purdy. Mrs. Bowman was the widow of the late Judge E.M.Bowman, who was the judge of the Western Dist. of Barry Co. He died nineteen years ago and since that time Mrs. Bowman made her home with dau. Mrs Ash. She is survived by four sons.John Bowman, of Cassville; Joe Bowman of Mt. Vernon;Albert Bowman,Mangun Okla.; Clayborn Bowman,Conrad,Iowa;and two daughters,Mrs C.D.Ash, of Monett and Mrs.Lela Barnett,Joplin. Five children have died. MonettTimes

He was born to Elijah and Joanah Neal Bowman at Purdy Mo. Hes first wife lizzie died a few years after they were married in 1910 at Cassville,Mo. Their daughter,Olet (Mrs Walter) Bardwell of Hutchinson,Kansas.. Tive grandchildren and several grt. grandchildren survive. He moved to Conrad Iowa approx. 40 yrs ago and on Dec. 11 1956 , married Grace Meester. He died in 1970. Five sisters and five brothers also preceded him in death..He was a retired office employee of Air Conditioning inc.Marshaltown, with an office in Conrad. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Conrad, was a 50 yr. member of the American legion Post # 681 and Roman Masonic Lodge. He was a vet. of the U.S. Army, having served during World War 1.
