Hiram is described as the family patriarch of a long line of Montgomerys. THe farm where they lived was settled about 1770. Hiram inherited an equal share of his mother-in-law's estate in 1852 as did his brother, Samuel. In the 1850 Census Hiram lived in Murray County with $8,000 in real estate. In the 1860 Census report he is listed as having $16,000 in real estate plus $5,292 in personal property.
In 1848 there was a Montgomery Post Office; Montgomery School opened in 1890. The Montgomery Ferry operated until 1917 when Montgomery Bridge was built. The high point was called Montgomerys (later McEntires after the two families intermarried). Montgomery Road with Montgomery Bridge was built from Ball Ground to Wells, GA. In 1860 the home was in redistricted into Lumpkin County, Yfahoola District at the Census. The home later became McEntires Farm. Hiram's mother was believed to be Ailsey Montgomery who is believed to have lieved with them when she died. Hiram died on 10 Dec 1867 and was buried in Montgomery Cemetery, later McEntire Cemetery which is south of the old home place in Murray County, GA.
From Georgia K. Sanders: My aunt (now deceased) gave me this information after my mother had passed away. I did not become interested in family history before my mother had gone and oh, how I wish I had. Aunt Daisy said her grandma's father was a rich man, had seven miles of rich bottom land on each side of the Coosawattee River and when each child was married he gave him or her a nice farm. Had negro slaves and her mother was in the family after two of them died. They never left after they were freed.

Born on 6 May 1823, in Murray County, GA, Rebecca was the daughter of Hiram Montgomery and Milcha Cavender. Rebecca married William Sanford Hames in 1849 and had 7 children. Her sister Elizabeth married Joseph Hames, and her cousin James Riley (son of Thomas Montgomery) and his sister Martha Montgomery married a daughter and son of Thomas Henry Hames. Hames and Montgomerys were close in Murray County, GA, and also in Izard County, AR. She is supposed to have come from Georgia to Missouri and thence to Arkansas. She visited Georgia to see her brothers, George and Bill, after coming to Arkansas. Rebecca belonged to the MEthodist Chruch. Whenever ladies would come to see her, she always had a quilt in the frames and they would visit while quilting. She dies on 3 Nov 1896 and was buried in the Wideman Cemetery along side of her daughter, Meeka.
