As a young man, he played baseball in Lyndonville, VT. He was selected for tryout in the Eastern Baseball League in Pittsfield, MA. He also worked a var- iety of jobs. He worked for the Central Vermont, Boston and Maine, and Canad- ian Pacific Railroads. He was the assistant manager for the Metropolitan Life Insurance from 1929-32. Later he worked for the Butterfield Union Twist Drill in Derby Line, VT. retiring in 1958.
