During the summer of 1910, he went to the Canadian West in a freight car load- ed with household goods and livestock destined for a farm recently bought by Dr. E.J. Edgar of North Hatley, PQ. The following year, he was joined by his fiancee, Margaret McRae. After working for Dr. Edgar for a while, the couple acquired land under the Homestead Act in a new settlement called Hope Valley, in Alberta. [Charles Rublee mans.]
