Notes:
Sarah Eliza Manning Stevens Roylance crossed the plains in 1861 with Catpain Horne's company.
Sarah grew up in Slaterville, Utah and worked as the children of the farmers had to in those days of pioneering.
When Sarah was a small child, the Indians came to their home dor bread, bacon or whatever food was available. One day an Indian came in the house for bread and Mrs. Manning didn't have any. The Indian drew a knife, and Mrs. Manning turned to Sarah and said, "Go and call your Father." Sarah said "Daddy isn't home." The Indian, not understnading all that was said left. Mrs. Manning told Sarah, when Indians were near, to go like she was going into another room and say nothing. It was a lesson not to be forgotten by Sarah.
Sarah grew up in this striving community and married Robert Lind Stevens who was another pioneer from town. Five children were born to this union. Robert Charles, who died in infancey, Sarah Debora (Dora), Ida, Ross, and Mark. Mr. Stevens died in 1983 leaving Sarah with the children. After five years, on 15 Feb 1898, she married Hyrum Roylance, who had eight children. Sarah hepled raise them and was a real mother to all. Even a Grandmother to the Grandchildren. They all loved her until the end of her useful life. Mr. Roylance died in Aug. 1914. When Sarah married Mr. Roylance, they moved to North Ogden, which was her home until the last two years of her life, when she went and lived with her daughter Dora in Burley, Idaho.
Dora was named Sarah Deborah Stevens at birth. She was called Dora by friends and family all of her life to prevent confusion between mother Sarah and daughter Sarah. Temple records were submitted under the name Dora Stevens Elmer.
