                   Note: Tobin surname is Irish.  Passenger and Immigration Lists Index, 1500s-1900s show a number of Tobin families coming from Ireland to Canada.  Many moved southward into the U.S.  Several John Tobins were listed in this index, but it was impossible to identify any of these with this ancestor.

The 1820 Census of Oxford County, Maine has a John Tobin of the right age to have been this ancestor.  Six children are enumerated, but of course, names are not given in this census.
