Brother John Stutznegger Sr. of Manti, Utah, sent this testimony to the German Star, his home newspaper and it was printed on 8 Nov 1882.
It is now nearly three years since I with my family said goodbye to our dear old Switzerland and I can say I have never regretted it. I feel happy to be gathered with the people of God to this beautiful holy land of America. I know that we have a good Father in Heaven who cares for his children.
He has revealed the Gospel from Heaven to His servant, the Prophet Joseph Smith, and through him founded the Church of Christ upon the earth. Those who reject the message of the Gospel will be chastised with many stripes. We do live in a curious time.
All man-kind should seek God and learn His commandments and keep them. Satan is busy to thwart and overthrow the work of God, and to tempt us in many ways. He urges mankind to anger against the people of God, like he did Cain, who slew righteous Abel.
Abraham, the father of the righteous, was presecuted by his own father. Persecution was the sad lot of many prophets and many righteous women unto death. Through the revenge of Satan, Christ was nailed to the cross, and through this same power of darkness, in these last days, was the blood of the Prophet and Patriach shed, as well as many members of the Church of Christ.
The world is not satisfied, urged on by the Prince of Darkness are all man-made churches and religious practices to unit themselves against the small number who honor God, according to his will, and keep his commandments, fearless and punctual as the holy scripture teaches.
I testify that what the world calls Mormonism is the true work of the Lord. I would desire to call on all mankind to try the message that is being proclaimed by our missionaries. I have proven it and have found that by living it blessings and and happiness follow.
Harken to the elders from Zion, as they come in the name of of the Lord and bring the Gospel of Christ for the salvation of of those that believe their words.
Beloved brothers and sisters I admonish you to be true and honest by keeping the commandments of God that we may all help to build up this great land of Zion and be gathered with the people of God to this beautiful land. In Zion we need not go hungry, and instead of paying large sums of money for military tax and the cost of weapons of war, we build temples and churches for the blessings of mankind and to the honor of God.
Be true, even if poverty tries you, then God will open up this way for everyone to come to Zion at the right time. May God's blessings be with you all. I am John Stutznegger.
