Newspapers Vol. 72 - The Carteton Sentinel, Woodstock, #1958 - "Mr. and Mrs. Murray McLean, who left here a few years ago, missionaries to Africa, returned last week just in time for Mrs. McLean to reach the bedside of her father, J.M. Hartley, Southampton, (York Co.) ere he breathed his last."
Vital Statistics from N.B. Newspapers Vol. 74 - St. John Globe, #2126 - "Our readers remember Miss Louisa Hartley who went to Africa as one of Bishop Taylor's missionaries three or four years ago. We have a letter written by her at St. Paul de Loanda, Angola, S. W. Africa, Nov. 14, 1888. Since going to Africa she has been married, her husband being Murray McLean who was also a missionary and who went to Africa from Woodstock, N.B. a little earlier. Referring to her marriage she says: You will remember when I attended Normal School in Fredericton that you promised you would officiate in such an event. But such a pleasure and satisfaction as that would have been denied us. We were married by the Civil Service, the British Consul officiating. The ceremony was, of necessity, performed at the Consulate. However, a greater than any earthly friend or dignitary was present. - 'intelligencer'
