Joshua GUINN

                   Information taken from a family history (author unknown), now in my possession, shows that Joshua was the son of Howard Guinn of Ireland.   Joshua  left Ireland with his older brother (name unknown) enroute to America.  While aboard ship the two brothers had an disagreement.  Instead of choosing the tradtional way of settling disagreements -  dueling -  they chose instead to disown each other.  The older brother changed his name from Guinn to Quinn and they went their seperate ways.

Joshua settled in East Tennessee and married Elizabeth (Betsy) Brooks.  He was a tanner and operated a tanning yard at Eves Landing in McMinn County.  He and Betsy had 12 children.  After the death of Betsy, it is recorded that Joshua married a Howard, and they had two children.

The 1870 cenus lists this Joshua as being born in Tennessee, and his wife Elizabeth, being born in Virginia.
