Jens was baptized 29 Nov 1851 by Jens Jorgensen at the seashore in Arnager Jens and Matilda Christine Funk who were married in Mar immigrated to US in 1857. They sailed from Copenhagen April 18, 1857 on steamship "L.N. Hvidt" to Hull, England and then by rail to Liverpool. Then on April 25 on the "Westmoreland" sailed for Philadelphia arriving May 30 or 31 1857. Mathias Cowley was on the ship returning from his mission to England. They joined the Seventh Handcart Company and left Iowa City on June12, 1857 and arrived in Salt Lake Valley 13 Sep 1857 Settled Plain City Utah where he farmed, ran a coop store and did tailoring Married a 2nd wife--Maren Cathrine Thomasen Robert Vaughn Folkman says his diary is in the Historical Library in Salt Lake
He married Gjertrud Kristine Ipsen 29 Mar 1817 at Bornholm, Denmark . Gjertrud Kristine Ipsen was born at Aaker, Bornholm, Denmark 19 Mar 1790 .
