Amasa Elias JAMES

SHORT HISTORY:  Born in in Rosette, UT and raised in Park Valley, UT. He was larger in stature than other members of the family and took on the role of older brother. He was looked up to by other family members. Since this father was gone alot he took over the crop responsibilities when old enough. He finished school in Park Valley through the 8th grade and went to college in Logan, UT. There he met his wife Pauline. They were imposing and handsome couple. Amas was a strong man and natural leader with a commanding personality. He was loving with his family but a strict disciplinarian and gained their loyalty. Pauline made up for his strictness with her gentleness. All of his family were in business with him. After working with his father a few years he moved his family to Jackson, WY where he made his home for the rest of his life. He was a successful beef cattle rancher acquiring much property. He was a community leader, particularly in livestock organizations. He died near his home when a cow upset his horse and he was thrown to the ground. He was respected and loved by many. Family members liked to visit with them.

CHURCH SERVICE:  Amas, like other of Dave James's boys, was not an active church attender.  He was baptized into the LDS Church in his youth and always supported it. He was a model Christian in principle and taught his family high ideals and character. Pauline, however, was more concerned that her family be active in the church and was successful with some.
