François BÉLANGER

François arrived in Canada in the spring of 1636 and on July 27, 1636 puthis sigature on the first marriage contract to be drawn up in Canada.  Itwas drawn up by Jean Guyon, notary royal of Canada for Robert Drouin andAnne Cloutier.

   Where François orignated from in France is not known, but a baptismalrecord was found in the parish register of St. Pierre de Seez, Orne andreads as follows:

" On October 07, 1612 was baptized François Belanger, son of FrançoisBelanger and Françoise Horlays.  He was named by the Honorable FrançoisDumesnil, lord notary, Lord of St. Teny.  Present were the HonorableNicolas Bougis, Lord of Fosses and controler and Lady Loyse Gurou, wifeof the noble Guillaume Lepaulnier, notary, Lord of the Chapel."
There is nothing to verify that this is the Baptizimal record of FrançoisBelanger that came to Canada.
François was not long in Canada when he met and courted Marie Guyon,daughter of Jean Guyon and Mathurin Robin.  They had 12 children, ofwhich 10 had children of their own.

Taken from the registry of Saint Pierre de Seez (Orne):

"On the seventh day of October 1612 was baptized François Bellanger, sonof François Bellanger and Françoise Horlays and was named after thehonorable François Dumesnil, Squire of St Teny, and by the honorableNicolas Bougis, Sieur de Fosses, and demoiselle Loyse Gurou, wife ofSquire Guillaume Lepaulnier, Sieur de la Chapelle."
