Temple work has been done for Thomas William Callahan several times at these locations: IFALL, ATLAN, JRIVE, OGDEN, SLAKE.

SHORT HISTORY: Thomas William Callahan was born and raised in New Yoark. It was there he met Lucinda (Shipman) Austin and they had their first child, Alma Austin. Lucinda was the illegitimate daughter of Olive Lee, who evidently had married Daniel Shipman. Lucinda was raised by William Austin; thus, the exact parentage of Lucinda is an open question. Thomas William and Lucinda joined the LDS Church in about 1840 and we find them in Nauvoo, Illinois in 1842. The Austins evidently joined the Church at the same time and traveled with them to Nauvoo. The next two children, Andrew Nicol and Amasa Lyman, were born in Nauvoo. Amasa lived less than a year. After leaving Nauvoo and while at Mt. Pisgah Thomas joined the Morman Battalion leaving Lucinda to travel the rest of the distance to Utah alone. Another child, Agnes Ann, was born to this union near Council Bluffs. Thomas's leaving marked the end of this family relationship as Thomas never returned to Utah for 13 years and Lucida, thinking he had died or deserted her remarried. Thomas probably was prospecting for gold in the Sacramento area. Lucinda married Jonathan Campbell in 1849. Lucinda had 7 more children by this marriage. Andrew Nicol was raised in the Campbell home. The Campbell's lived first in Salt Lake City and then moved to N Ogden in about 1853. Thomas William married Mary Ann Grover in 1859. While living in Smithfield, Utah a son named Joseph William (1863) was born. Later (after 1871) he moved to Park Valley, Utah. It could be that he followed the path of his children by Lucinda to be near them. Lucinda also moved to Park Valley about 1871 without Jonathan, and before his death in 1886. It was here that Thomas William died and was buried in 1889.

SHORT HISTORY: See the historical notes for Thomas William Callahan for a more full account of Andrew's early life. Briefly, he was born in Nauvoo, Illinois after his parents had joined the LDS Church in New York. His father joined the Mormon Battalion and his mother, Lucinda, continued accross the plains to Utah. When Thomas didn't return with the rest of the soldiers from California she assumed desertion and married Jonathan Cambell. Thomas did return 13 years later and married Mary Ann Grover. Andrew grew to be a rather large and strong man. He was nice looking but vain and conceited. He had a vile disposition and bad temper. He made his livig mostly by freighting goods with a team and wagon. When just 19 he met and married a 18 year old Norwegian girl, Enger Andrena Johnson. She possessed all the opposite features of Andrew. She was small, fair and mild; but had grown strong by the things she suffered coming to Utah. They made their first home at Willow Creek (Willard), Utah. Before their first child, Agnes Boletta, was born they had moved to Hyrum, Utah where they lived for 7 or 8 years. Andrena gave birth to 2 more children, Amasa and Sever. The story is that Andrew was freighting to Kelton, Utah and his horses wondered away. He found them on a grassy meadow in Rosette, 5 miles west of Park Valley. Soon thereafter (1871) he moved his family there where Andrena lived for most of the rest of her life. Andrew was gone much of the time freighting. When home he was disagreeable and often mean. Five more children were born to them in Rosette. If Andrew made any money he spent it on booze and didn't bring much of it home. He was an excellent horseman and good with a rope and bullwhip. He prided himself as being able to kill a fly on the rump of his horse without touching the horse and cutting off the head of a rattlesnake. After one of his trips and after being gone for an extended period he came home and asked for Andren's consent to marry another woman by the name of Ellen Manful. Andrena gave him an emphatic no and Andrew flew into a rage. He beat Andrena unmercifully and when Amasa tried to interfer he beat him with his blacksnake whip, which scars he carried for the rest of his life. Before Andrew left Amasa confronted him with the shot gun and told if he ever touched his mother again or returned to the house he would kill him. He left to live with his new found lover and never returned. Before leaving he took all of the food, horses, wagons, etc. He moved to Naff, Idaho and lived there for a few years before moving to Farmington, Utah near the present Lagoon amusement park. There was little contact with his children after that. He died in Farmington.
