Notes:
NOTES: AWT William was a vassal of Nigel de Mowbray and is recorded as performing military service for him and paying fees for the land he held. In 1231 he was convicted of the felonious murder of a man named Hugh le Rus and his estates were forfeited to the crown. His minor son Robert was made ward to Ralph Ashby a son of William's brother Nicholas Ashby. William was outlawed but then later pardoned (apparently at or near his death) in 1248 by King Henry III, and in 1248 King Henry III ordered that Joan receive specified lands as her dower after the death of William.
