Capt. Henry Hinkle served as a "waggoner" in the Revolutionary War and was placed in charge of wagons hauling ammunitions and supplies between Philadelphia and the Carolinas. (Sounder's Colonial Records of North Carolina, Vol 10, pp. 755-757.
