Joseph spent the better part of his life in southern Pike County, Missouri with the last eight or nine years being spent in the town of Annada. He was married to Mary Elizabeth Barnes during the year that the Civil War broke out. He was a member of the Christian Church. Owned a store at Smith's mill, now Sledd, Mo., then became a farmer.
