Note: 1. Thomas and Unity had thirteen children. 2. The name JERNIGAN has been spelled JARNAGIN, JERNEGAN, etc., interchangably throughout history. The Tennessee JERNIGANS spell their name JARNAGIN, to this day, even though the JERNIGANS and JARNAGINS come from the same ancesters. 3. Thomas and Unity left Grainger Co. after they were married and made their home in Dickson Co., TN In 1840 they moved to Missouri. In 1896 migrated to Texas and engaged in farming. 3. Thomas was a prominent man in his community and held several pubilc positions. He was County Surveyor of Polk Co., for 16 years. 4. Estate proven 8 Oct. 1881, final settelmen 5 Feb. 1884 Polk Co., Missouri.
Note: 1. He was reared in Polk & Cedar Co's. Missouri. He received his educationn at Bolivar, MO 2. 20 July 1862, Thomas enlisted in the Confederate Army at Cedar Creek, Arkansas. He was in Co. "G" Hunter's Regt., Missouri Inf. and then later Co. "G" 11th Regt. Missouri Inf. 3..He was with the 11th Regt. at the battle of Pleasant Hill, Louisiana, and was wounded on 9 April 1864. 4. Thomas & Jennie migrated to Texas after the Civil War in and pursued farming. They settled near Bells in Grayson Co.where they had 165 acres to farm. 5. Commissioned by the Governor to represen his county in the Farmers Congree of the U. S.\ 6. Later became a school teacher at the Jernigan School, and later opened a grocery and hardware store. 7. He was a member of the Baptist Church and of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows,also a Mason. 8. He passed away in General Hospital in Los Angeles, while residing in Azuse, CA
He married Unity J. Bledsoe 17 Nov 1817 at Knox, Tennessee . Unity J. Bledsoe was born at Wake, North Carolina 3 Jun 1796 daughter of Barnabas Bledsoe and Rebecca Bledsoe Reynolds .
