Obituary, Star Valley Independent, February, 1985:  Ella Luthi Johnson, 72, died Feb. 11, 1985 at her home of a heart condition.
       Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 14 at the Etna Ward Chapel with Bishop Jerry Harmon officiating.  Interment was in the Etna Cemetery.
       Ella was born April 16, 1912 in Freedom, Idaho, a daughter of Fred and Clara Smith Luthi.  She had a twin brother, Frank G. Luthi.  Their mother died eight days after they were born.  Their Grandpa Lindholm had Frank and Ella come live with him and his daughters, Joann, Teckla and Martha.  They lived there about four years until their father married Mary Zollinger of Logan, Utah.
       Ella attended school in Freedom, Wyo., where she graduated from the eighth grade.  She worked in lower valley and caught a ride to work on the mail sleigh.
       George Johnson was a widower looking for someone to tend his children and clean house while he was working.  This is how she met George Johnson.  George's wife had died leaving him with six children to raise.  George and Ella were later married April 30, 1932 at Randolph, Utah.  They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary three years ago in the Etna chapel.
       They llived in Alpine until their house burnt, moved to Etna and worked on ranches before buying a ranch.  They lived there for years before moving to Afton in 1961.  Ella enjoyed flowers, gardens, fishing and children.
       She was a member of the LDS church and the Women's Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
       Surviving are her husband, George, and daughters; Mrs. Dick (Joan) Martin of Afton; Mrs. Walt (Judy) Sivertsen of Lloyd, Montana; Mrs. Brad (Sharon) Thoren of Farson, Wyoming; Mrs. Bert (Delphia) McNeel of Etna; Mrs. Wardell (Zola) Jenkins of Alpine and sons:  George E. Johnson of Alpine; Van Johnson, Myron (Hop) Johnson of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and Doyle Johnson of Linden, Calif.  Brothers and sisters include:  Ernold Luthi, of Soda Springs, Idaho; Mrs. Bill (Beatrice) Croft, Etna; Mrs. Clyde (Leora) Rainey and Dale Luthi of Freedom; 38 grandchildren and 65 great-grandchildren.
