In Sarah James's fathers will, we learn that John Bailey was serving inthe Army at the time of Sarah's Fathers death.  Other family informationindicates that John Bailey fought in the battle of Yorktown.  Although atthis time, unable to verify any Revolutionary War service, it isspeculated that John Bailey was probably a member of the local militia,and his militia unit probably served at Yorktown.

John Bailey and his wife Sarah moved from Prince Edward County, Virginia, to Montgomery County North Carolina about 1795-96.

The burning of the Montgomery County Court House on Mar. 31, 1843 destroyed the early records for that County.  The basic records forgenalogy research were lost.  This seriously handicapped efforts to builda history of the life of John Bailey and his children.  (Just a note ofInterest), the person responsible for the burning of the MontgomeryCounty Court House, turned out to be the father of Salina Spencer, John Bailey Callicott's own grand daughter-in-law.  Reportedly, he burned thebuilding down to evidently to destroy evidence of forgery and anindictment for altering a land deed.

In 1820 the Census of Moore County shows Sarah Callecotte age over 45, ina separate household, indicating that John Bailey must have died prior to1820, and she had moved to Moore County to be closer to her son, who wasmarried and head of household in Moore County.
                  

                   Beverly, served in a local milita during the Revolutionary War, and in anold family bible, was listed as being wounded during the war.

Like his father, Beverly, was a successful, Tobacco, Farmer.
