Charles Raymond ALLRIDGE

                   Prior to his dealth,Nov.1933,I remember that our drinking water was stored in a large wooden barrel. In the summer it was filled with water from the irrigation ditch. In the winter father had to haul the barrel to the canal to fill it. He placed the barrel on large sled and horse was harnessed to the sled to pull the heavy load. At least on one of these trips to the canal, I was privileged to go along. I still remember the joy I felt as I walked hand in hand with my father along at the side of the horse. Much of the time the canal was frozen and father had to chop a hole in the ice in order to reach the water which he scooped up with a bucket.
As a young child I was unable to talk plain and people thought that I was tongue tied. My oldest sister Merle could not hear well. My parents decided to take us to Salt Lake City to see a doctor that they hoped could help us both. The doctor could not tell what was wrong with Merle,s
hearing ,but he said that I was not tongued and that I needed my eyes corrected with glasses.
