Obil enlisted to fight in the Revolutionary war on Jan 24, 1776. He fought in the Continental Army with Capt John Stephen's Company, Col Burrall's Regiment during the Northern Expedition of 1776 to take Quebec and force Canada into an alliance with the the colonies. Obil's group were separated from the main party at the "Cedars" forty miles above Montreal where on May 19, 1776 Obil and the other officers and men were taken prisioner by the British. He was discharged Sep 27, 1776. About 1784 he and his family moved to Huntington, Luzerne County, PA. He was listed among the taxable residents of Huntington in 1796 as Abiel Fellows. The 1800 Pennsylvania Census lists Obil Fellows as living in Luzerne County, PA (Roll no 2, page no 148). In the winter of 1802 the family moved to Onondaga, NY. Obil and Lois are buried in the Fellows Cemetery on Seal Road at the northern end of the Onondaga-Marcellus Town line. There is some uncertainty about the name "Obil". This was a time when children of Puritan families were customarily given Old Testament names. "Obil" is not found in the Bible. Perhaps his name was "Obal", a varient spelling of the Old Testament "Ebel". Or perhaps it was a form of "Abiel", another Old Testament name, given to his uncle. Some family members contend that it was really "Odeb", a biblical name related to "Obadiah". (Ref; Erwin W. Fellows)
