Phoebe could not be sealed to Levi during her lifetime since she was sealed to his brother Emmanuel - during this time Church policy stated that women could not be sealed to more than once. Because of this, Levi and Phoebe's kids were technically sealed to Emmanuel. Later, when Church policy changed, Phoebe was sealed to Levi and the children were sealed to their biological parents. Historical information included in notes. Phoebe's parents were converts to the Church of Jesus Christ ofLatter-day Saints and soon took their six children to Illinois. Their farm was about four miles from Carthage , Illinois, and many of the Saints would stop by their home to rest as they traveled from Nauvoo to Carthage. When Phoebe was six years old, her mother passed away. Shortly after her father remarried, they began making preparations for their journey toUtah with the Saints. They arrived in the Salt Lake Valley with the Edward Hunter Wagon Company on September 29, 1847.They endured a shortage of food and built a one-room adobe home in whic hto live during their first year. Phoebe and Emanuel Hunt were married in March of 1857. They moved toGunison to make their home. In March of 1863, Emanuel and his brother, Levi, went to the canyons to get wood for fuel. On the return trip, Emanuel's wagon overturned and killed him. Phoebe was left a widow with three small children to raise. Levi asked her to marry him in polygamyand they were married on April 1, 1863.Just two months after their marriage, Levi's first wife died and left Phoebe with three more children to raise. They moved to Deseret , Utah, and then to Paragonah, Iron County for the next eleven years. They were called to settle in Arizona. They lived in an area where it was so desolate, they had to endure scarcity of food, endless wind and sand, floods, crop losses, cattle rustlers, danger form the Indians, and danger from outlaws. After four years, they were released from this mission and traveled back to Richfield, Utah.
