The Bedford Times Press Bedford Taylor County, Iowa Thursday May 28, 1936 Gravity Charles Vanalstine died suddenly at his home in Gravity, Sunday. The funeral services were held at the Christian Church Tuesday afternoon. Burial was in the Gravity Cemetery. A number of friends were entertained in the home of Mrs. And Mrs. Vanalstine Sunday and about 3 p.m. while they were sitting out on the porch visiting, Mr. Vanalstine suffered a stroke of paralysis, and in a very short time passed away. He had been in poor health for several months past but was able to be up and around most of the time. Clarinda Herald Journal Clarinda, Page, Iowa June 1, 1936 CHARLES VAN ALSTINE An old resident of Guss and Gravity communities, Charles VanAlstine, sustained a stroke at his home in Gravity, where he passed away Sunday, May 24, and was laid to rest in the Gravity cemetery the Tuesday following. He was past 54 years of age, born Feb. 21. 1882, at Guss, son of Edward and Ella Kunce VanAlstine. He was married in 1904 to Emma Shum, who survives him, as does a son George, three grandchildren, four sisters and three brothers. The Clarinda brothers and sisters are Mrs. Myrtle Wilcox, Mrs. Bertha Mitchell, Mrs. Hettie Orme, and Mrs. Dora Swallow of St. Louis, Mo.

Mrs. Orme died this Thursday morning at West Heights Manor where she had been for two weeks following a brief illness. Burial will be in North Grove Cemetery. She was born Sept. 27, 1892, in Montgomery County and lived in the North Grove area much of her life. She was married to William Delbert Orme who preceded her in death in 1956. Mrs. Orme is survived by five children: Charles, Mrs. Don (Phyllis) Miller, Marvin Orme and Mrs. Hal (Arlene) Fulton of Nodaway, Ia, and Delford Orme of Northboro. There are 17 grandchildren and several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Bertha VanAlstine of Clarinda is a sister-in-law. Mrs. Orme was preceded in death by three daughters: Amy Buchanan, Mae Parsons and Velma Lofgren, and two sons who died as children, Clifford and Homer. Two grandchildren also preceded her in death. She was a member of the North Grove Methodist Church.

V542 Vanalstine, George c Bertha Sollars LEWIS GEORGE VAN ALSTINE Clarinda Herald Journal Clarinda, Page, Iowa 5 Jun 1951 Lewis George Van Alstine Lewis George Van Alstine, son of Edward and Ellen Van Alstine was born in Montgomery county, Iowa, March 21, 1894, and died in Mitchell Clinic, Excelsior Springs, Mo., May 30, 1951, at the age of 57 years 2 months 9 days. He was united in marriage to Bertha Sollars Feb 21,1912. To this union four children were born: Dale, Letha (Mrs. Max Williamson), and Lewis of Clarinda, and Vona (Mrs. Howard Peterson), of Chariton. Mr. Van Alstine was a farmer, having lived for 29 years on a farm two and one half miles northeast of Hawleyville in Taylor county. When his health failed three years ago he gave up farming and moved to the present home in Clarinda, where he lived for the past two years. He was a member of the Hawleyville Methodist church. He is survived by his wife; four children; eight grandchildren; and four sisters Mrs. George Wilcox of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Bertha Mitchell and Mrs. Del Orme of Clarinda, and Mrs. Nathan Swallow of Sulphur Springs, Mo. Funeral service was held Saturday, June 2, at 2 p.m. from the Walker Funeral Home. Burial was in the Clarinda cemetery.
