(Arizona)His funeral will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Congregational United Church of Christ with the Rev. Brian Grover officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with military rites by the Huron Veterans Council. Visitation will be Monday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church.George William Clifton was born Oct. 18, 1925, at Wessington Springs to Jonathen and Ferne (McFarling) Clifton. He attended school in Wessington Springs. On June 22, 1947, he married Leanna Thompson at rural Wessington Springs.He worked at Habichts in Wessington Springs and served in the Air Force from 1946 to 1947. He returned to Wessington Springs and farmed for two years. He worked for Martin Beach on a REA line construction crew and lived throughout South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wyoming and Montana during those nine years. He settled in Huron in 1954. He worked for Charlie Burmood and Walt Ball at the Huron Airport until 1967 and continued to work for the City of Huron part time at the airport plowing snow in the winter and mowing in the summer. In 1967 he began his job at State Police Radio as a dispatcher and retired in 1987.He loved to go to Lake Byron and built a home there in 1973. After his retirement he began going to Donna, Texas, for the winter months. He has spent the last four summers at Rogers.He was a member of Congregational United Church of Christ, a 59-year member of the American Legion, 40 et Eight and the South Dakota Peace Officers Association.He enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, biking, boating, playing shuffleboard and traveling.He is survived by four children, Georgiana (Charles) Ferry of Yokohama, Japan, Gary of San Leandro, Calif., Loren of Haley, Idaho, and Lesa (Nolan) Wipf of Hitchcock; four grandsons, David and Brian Ferry and Brandon and Spenser Wipf; a special friend, Irene Little, of Rogers; two sisters, Marcella Leonard of Burlingame, Calif., and Doris (Myron) Mebius of Plankinton; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 1995, and a brother, Jackie.
