PARENTS: Her parents are John Radcliffe and Elizabeth Garner early settlers in
Highland Co.  They located there when Matilda was 6 months old.  Elizabeth
Garner came to Clinton Co. with her parents, James Garner and wife who
previously lived in North Carolina.  In 1811 they left that state and settled
near Snow Hill in Clinton Co.  1850 Census:  James Garner, 78 yrs.,  b. North
Carolina.  Elizabeth Ratcliffe, 50 yrs, b. Tennessee (Death record says she was
born in Marion Twp, Ohio.) Rachel 28 years, b. Ohio; Edom 26 yrs, Male, b. Ohio
Matilda A., 22 years b. Ohio.  Film 568,556, Record of Deaths, Clinton Co.,
Ohio; FHL; Elizabeth Ratcliff 24 Sept 1868, Clark, Clinton Co., Ohio; widow
70 years, 3 months 8 days, father James Garner, Mother Mary Garner, died of
typhoid fever, last place of residence, Clark, born Marrion Twp, Clinton Co.

                   Information from Emerson B. West Biog. in History of Clinton Co., OH; Brown;
1915; p. 881.  Farmed in Green township.  He and his sister lived on old farm
and opened their home to a 12 year old child from the children's home.  They
raised her to womanhood.

MARRIAGE: 1920 Census: Emerson 58 years, his wife, Bessie, 33 years.
Is this the Bessie that they raised? And did they really get married?
Or was this a mistake by the Census taker?
