Vincenzo James Rossi left his famiy in Italy in 1910 to come to the US.  He left Italy by boat and arrived in New York 15 August 1910.  He traveled to Portland, Oregon, and then to Spitzenburg, Oregon, where he went to work in the logging camp.  He saved enough money to send for his wife, Rosa, and son, Dominic, 4 years later.  Rosa and Dominic, age 6, left Italy in March 1914, arriving in New York 1 April 1914.  They travelled by train to Portland, Oregon.

On 1 June 1924 Vincenzo  was working at Nehalem Timber Co., and was fighting a forest fire when a snag from a tree fell on him and broke his back.  He was taken to St. Vincent Hospital, Portland, Oregon.  He lived for 17 days and died 17 June 1924.
